Position Summary:
Life Skills & Nature Guide empowers youth to build resilience, confidence, and essential life skills through a combination of structured social-emotional learning, EmpoderArte programming, and nature-based activities. The coach guides participants through reflective, hands-on experiences—both indoors and outdoors—while fostering a safe, inclusive, and motivating environment that supports personal and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
Facilitate the EmpoderArte program and SEL group sessions, helping participants develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Lead nature-centered activities such as hikes, outdoor learning projects, and reflective practices to support personal growth and wellbeing.
Plan and coordinate field trips, experiential learning projects, and program events.
Provide individualized life-skills coaching, including self-reliance, time management, budgeting, and overcoming personal challenges.
Monitor participant progress and provide regular guidance and feedback.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
Collaborate with staff, families, schools, and community partners to enhance program effectiveness and participant success.
Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, environmental education, or a related field preferred, with either one year of relevant experience or three years of experience in a related role.
Experience facilitating youth programs, teaching life skills, SEL coaching, or guiding outdoor experiential activities.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency required.
Patient, personable, and able to build trust with participants.
Knowledge of social-emotional learning strategies, youth development best practices, and nature-based experiential learning.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Valid NJ driver’s license and ability to travel for program activities.
Work Environment / Schedule:
Part-time position with potential to transition to full-time based on program needs and performance.
Flexible schedule to accommodate group sessions, field trips, and program activities.
Primarily on-site work with participants, with opportunities for outdoor engagement.
