A new bilingual program in Hammonton, NJ, seeks to empower youth to take control of their future

Hammonton, NJ — Allies in Caring, will offer a new program this fall for youth ages 16-24, called EmpoderArte "The Art of Self-empowerment." This program, sponsored by the Center for Hispanic Policy Research and Development, OceanFirst Bank, and Lasagna Love, seeks to empower youth to build on the skills they need to transition to college and adulthood and prevent school dropouts.

"There is a significant number of youths in Hammonton, NJ, who need our support. Students who drop out of school usually face major challenges to find jobs and their paths in life. We created EmpoderArte to help youth to find their passion, what they are good at and what the world needs," said Ivette Guillermo-McGahee, Founder and Executive Director of Allies In Caring.

EmpoderArte uses a holistic approach to help students to take control of their life and future. Students will have the opportunity to learn about career development, financial literacy, mental health care, the college application process, and financial aid options, among other topics.

Additionally, participants will have assistance with enrollment or re-enrollment in a college or university; Direct referral to workforce/employment skill development programs; Access to volunteering, internship, and employment opportunities; and assistance with job applications.

This program will also offer support to parents and guardians to help their youth manage stress and connect them to the resources they need to continue building their skills and pursuing a career path.

EmpoderArte will be offered in English and Spanish. Classes will start in October, taking place at Con-Vivir Wellness Hub, 100 S Second St, Hammonton, NJ.
